FED: Green and business groups largely happy with ETS defeat

Green and business groups today found themselves in a rare alliance .. celebrating
the defeat of the government's planned emissions trading scheme in the Senate.

STEVE CAMPBELL .. from Greenpeace .. says the ETS would have been ineffective .. and
was never going to decrease Australian emissions.

The Australian Environment Foundation and Friends of the Earth agree .. but are calling
for an urgent back-up plan.

And the Minerals Council of Australia says the government should now be looking at
a scheme which reduces emissions .. supports new technologies and protects the competitiveness
of Australia's export sectors.

The council's MITCHELL HOOKE says the government's scheme failed to do any of these.
