NSW: Gay protesters say Latham reneged on marriage deal

Almost 400 gay and lesbian protesters have lashed out at Labor Leader MARK LATHAM for
getting into bed with JOHN HOWARD.

Speaking at a colourful protest in Sydney's inner city yesterday, transgender activist
GRACE ABRAMS said Mr LATHAM reneged on his promise to end gay discrimination when Labor
on Friday voted with the coalition in the senate to ban gay marriage.

The protesters then embarked upon a march from Taylor Square in Darlinghurst to the
Family Court, where they placed candles, photographs and flowers on the building's steps.

The bill, that Labor supported, faces a possible High Court challenge, with Equal Rights
Network spokesman RODNEY CROOME saying it may be unconstitutional.

The Australian Democrats the Greens have spoken out against the change.
