SA: Medical students to work in PNG highlands
Three medical students who helped Australian Test cricket captain STEVE WAUGH treat
leprosy victims in India are moving on to an aid project in Papua New Guinea.
University of Adelaide medical students JAN-PAUL KWASIK, ANDREW PERRY and MATTHEW HUTCHINSON
will deliver aid to a hospital in PNG's remote highlands.
And they'll work at the Kompian Hospital, which is managed by Australian doctor DAVID MILLS.
The hospital services more than 40,000 people, but faces chronic shortages of staff
and medical supplies.
In June this year, the three students travelled through India with the assistance of
an organisation called Overseas Pharmaceutical Aid for Life.
They also met with WAUGH at the Udayan Rehabilitation Centre and orphanage home, of
which the cricket hero is a patron.
The students leave for Papua New Guinea next week.
