SA: Firefighters to mop up at blaze on Kangaroo Island

ADELAIDE, Dec 3 AAP - Firefighters would continue to monitor the scene of a blaze which
destroyed up to 750ha of scrub and a telephone exchange on Kangaroo Island yesterday.

The Country Fire Service said it expected to keep a check on the area for the rest of the
week after mopping up today.

The blaze centred on the Timber Creek area east of Parndana mostly burnt out pasture and
scrub but also destroyed the East Parndana telephone exchange.

At one stage about 90 firefighters were involved in bringing it under control, including
mainland crews sent to the island by ferry.

The CFS said those crews were expected to return to the mainland later today.
